A Study for An Improvement through Understanding of The Current College of Pharmacy Education Status


Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate what the desirable education system of college of pharmacy is in the pharmaceutical atosmosphere in Korea especially after the separation of prescribing and dispensing enforced on July 1st, 2000. The college of pharmacy education is carried out in the similior ways in the developed countries such as USA and EU countries. So there are investigations on the developed countries¢¥ pharmacy education systems and conditions in order to help better understand Korea¢¥s college of pharmacy education. Even if there are various kinds of methods and ways to improve pharmacy education system, it is also understood that the probable objective criterion is in advance introduced. To cope with that, there is a necessity of agreements from most of the concerning people like pharmacy professors and students, community pharmacists, hospital and industrial pharmacists. In order to investigate pharmaists¢¥ consciousness and opinion for current pharmacy education, written questionnaire surveys were sent to 300 pharmacists including pharmacy professors(100) and pharmacy students(50) by mail. The 179 persons were responded 42 hospital pharmacists(84), 40 community pharmacists and 41 students(82%) were responded.
The findings shows that more introduction of the clinical pharmacy practice in pharmacy curriculum, extension of pharmacy education course from 4 to 6 years, reduction of subjects of the national examination for pharmacy licence, abolition of oriental medicine pharmacy department, etc. Above all, the findings for the pharmacy education verifies the need of arrangements of all pharmacists¢¥ working in the various fields.
